Artist Bio// ARTIST STATEMENT (C. 2026)

Davon McMillian (b. 1990, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a contemporary painter based in Los Angeles, California. His practice centers on painting, printmaking and drawing, using portraiture and figuration to examine how digital media and marketing language affects perception and identity formation . He received his BA in Studio Arts from California State University, Chico in 2020 before building a career as a marketing designer in entertainment and fashion, an experience that now continually informs his practice. He approaches identity as an archive of observations rather than a chosen state of being, something shaped through adaptation. In his work, figures and portraits are a place to find solid ground amongst fragmentation and obscurity. Working across digital and traditional materials, he uses symbolism and text alongside the human form to explore moments where simple actions reveal underlying tension.
